We Worship
“By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” - 1 Corinthians 3:10-11

Wellspring - The "Church-in-a-Box"
There is a cute song that the kids and the rest of the congregation sing during our Sunday morning service sometimes. "I am the church!" We point at ourselves with both thumbs. "You are the church!" We point at us each other with our index fingers. Then we circle our arms wide and sing loudly, "WE are the church to-gether!"
We make the point that our church is made up of people, not drywall and plywood and stucco. Church carries a lot more importance and has more soul than a building; it is a "community of faith," meaning that church can be out in the streets, or wherever "two or more are gathered," as Jesus told us. While the unique function of the church is worship, it is also wherever its members gather to celebrate God in their lives. When we pray together, make plans together, do volunteer work together, have worship services together, that’s church.
Wellspring UMC does not have a Church building. No white steeple... No pews... But we do have a live, vibrant church through our congregation! We currently meet in the Lawrence Hall of the Trinity Episcopal Church at 440 Main Street in Shrewsbury but we also host services in Dean Park and we frequently meet at our homes to participate in small groups.
What does it mean, not to have a building? Well, we are certainly extremely flexible and can port our service anywhere we want at the drop of a hat! We have what we call: Church-in-a-box: Everything necessary to set up our worship service is kept in a bright red trailer. We have teams of roadies who take turn in pulling the trailer and setting up the worship space, whether in our current location or at the park!
Not having a building also allows Wellspring to allocate generous resources to other things such as mission work, evangelism projects and special events.
Come and join us! Let’s not go to church, let’s be the church!
